Spika Aviation Maintenance Platform

Spika’s line of aircraft maintenance platforms continues to set the standards with the highest quality manufacturing and most innovative designs of all fall protection stands available to the commercial and military industries. Our platforms provide the maintenance technician with efficient access to upper-level service zones, improving overall productivity while providing critical fall protection and assuring a safe work environment in accordance with OSHA 1910.

Spika aircraft maintenance stands fall into three categories: phase maintenance stands for depot-level maintenance, daily maintenance stands (our UMS series), and multi-application work stands. If you have specialized requirements beyond our standard offerings, our design team will work one-on-one with you to custom design a system ideally suited to your unique needs.

Passive fall protection is always the safest option when it comes to protecting against falls from a height, but aviation work platforms of the past were unstable, awkward to work with, and often interfered with, rather than supported, maintenance operations.

Recognizing that, we entered the maintenance stand market with the goal of designing and manufacturing equipment of the quality maintenance technicians expect and deserve. We spent several years working with military and general aviation facilities to better understand the challenges they face, the shortcomings of past equipment, and the features and capabilities they desired.

Using this information, we tasked our design team with developing a line of work stands and platforms that met or exceeded those defined requirements. The result is what many believe to be the best built, best designed systems available, incorporating features introduced by and found only on Spika products, including:

Engineered for exceptional stability

  • Our unique telescopic leg assemblies with lifetime-lubricated bushings provide stability and durability far superior to the lightweight, wobbly boat trailer jacks used on other platforms.
  • Bridge spans are truly engineered to support four times their load rating, with physical load tests and computer analysis to back it up.

Designs that work with your space and access requirements

  • Deep C-frames allow over-reach of obstacles.
  • Clear-span design allows unobstructed access to the lower level of the aircraft underneath the work platform.
  • Sliders extend to interface with aircraft, providing ultimate fall protection. Our highly effective pneumatic slider locking system locks the sliders into place with the flip of one switch.
  • More stable, smooth acting adjustable variable-pitch stair sets accommodate greater height variances without the bottom step rising off the ground.
  • Optional bi-level handrails adjust to accommodate aircraft component interference.

Mobility and versatility of configuration

  • Stairs and modules can be positioned in a number of ways to best fit the floor space.
  • Modules offer one, two, or even three feet (30, 61, or 91 cm) of height adjustability.
  • Most platforms can easily be moved by only two people.

Quick and simple set-up and reconfiguration

  • Camlock railing attachments offer fully-captured hardware on a firm, secure rail; handrails are easily removed and relocated in seconds without tools or lost parts.
  • Simple, fast, and secure quick-latch module connecting systems eliminate the need to line up pins or clamps when attaching staircases.
  • De-Sta-Co clamps or Spika’s link-bar system securely couple platforms together.
  • Module options offer quick disassembly/reassembly that allows consolidated crating and fast set-up/break down for deployment.

Work deck construction you can feel secure about

  • Spika’s extruded aluminum plank deck provides sure-footed traction that is easy on skin and clothing. Kneel on it, lay on it… you’ll never feel like you’re working on a cheese grater.
  • The deck and sliders are solid and free from “sponginess” and flexing so you can feel confident walking on the sliders, even fully extended.
  • D-rubber bumpers on the deck edge protect the aircraft from accidental contact.

Quality manufacturing built to last

  • All welding is performed by certified aluminum welders compliant with AWS-D1.2.
  • High quality, industrial-duty casters, brakes, and indexing pins are built to stand up to travel over rough and uneven surfaces.
  • Safety Yellow powder coated handrails provide clear visibility and long-lasting durability. Aluminum construction is lightweight and corrosion-resistant.

Do you need service air and electricity on a stand that doesn’t include it standard? Would you prefer electric or hydraulic elevation rather than our standard manual screw jacks? Do you need more or less height adjustability? No problem. Our job is to provide you with a maintenance stand ideally suited to the needs of your facility and your aircraft, and it is our policy to do whatever it takes to make that happen.

We believe in our products here at Spika, and we’re confident that the initial cost of a well designed, high quality aircraft maintenance stand is easily offset by higher productivity, better quality workmanship, and superior fall protection. Whether you need a complete phase maintenance system for a helicopter, a daily maintenance stand for a fixed-wing aircraft, or a multi-application work stand for use throughout your facility, you can trust Spika to provide you with a system that meets or exceeds your highest expectations.
